‘Celebrating CPR’ – Northcare Foundation Annual Dinner
On November 4 the annual dinner was held once again at Northshore Private Hospital. The theme was selected as tribute to the new International Guidelines for managing cardiac arrests. Various entertaining and informative presentations showcasing the work at RNSH were well received. This was complemented by a magnificent buffet and live music by the very talented ‘Soulmovers’.
A highlight of the night was a poignant speech by Mr Philip Castleton, father of Ingrid Castleton, a young woman well known to the RNSH ICU, who experienced a sudden unexpected cardiac arrest. His humbling retelling of her story reiterated the importance of expertise as well as empathy and kindness in supporting families through such crises.

Another highpoint of the evening was hearing from Mrs Bronwyn Williams, a senior ICU nurse and previous Northcare Nursing Scholarship recipient. Bronwyn is now the Resuscitation Clinical Nurse Consultant responsible for resuscitation at Royal North Shore Hospital . She spoke passionately about local innovations in practice. This year a record number of nurses working in the ever-expanding ICU have had their aspirations to pursue further formal education made real by the scholarships announced at the dinner. Bronwyn explained, sighting her own career journey as an example, how this crucial work of the foundation is enabling RNSH to attract and develop the best and brightest, most committed nurses possible to care for patients and loved ones during their stay in the ICU.
